Monday morning, before it was light out, we could see lightning to the north of us. When looking on radar, rain was falling in the Hayward area. We wondered if perhaps it would head to the east and miss us, but it moved south little by little and it began to rain around 7. In the end we got around 2 inches - crop saving 2 inches. You can see the water in our driveway. There was also the usual little lake in one low spot in the yard. All of this soaked it, but it will make a huge difference. Then, that evening, as I was heading to bed, we again heard thunder and saw lightning. We got more rain - this time around an inch. We are so grateful!!! Along with the hot humid weather we are getting this week, it should really help crops, gardens and the brown lawns. Amazing that just two months ago, we were wondering if the rain would ever stop. Crops went in late, and in some places, not at all. A very strange spring and summer!! It's all in God's hands, so I am grateful for it all.
Earlier this month, we made a Sunday morning drive down to our daughter Katie's. Granddaughter Emma had a rescheduled scrimmage and practice for softball that evening. I had driven down back in June but that scrimmage was canceled due to rain - she had several of those, so this was our chance to both watch her. It was really chilly that day. It was also quite breezy. We froze as we sat and watched, but it is always so worth it to see our grandkids!!! Cole kept his Dad quite busy wandering around the fairgrounds during the scrimmage. We were wondering if summer was over at that point, but this week our temps have been in the upper 80's and into the 90's. It was very humid a couple of those days. The humidity is starting to come down and will also cool down on Labor Day.
